19 weeks ago, I had the urge to launch my own business, something I’ve wanted to do for many years but not really sure what I wanted to offer. When I say what I wanted to offer, I was stuck between stsrting a healthcare agency supporting local establishments or a person centred care company where I could give back to the community. Knowing that there were so many people needing support but not able to get the help they desired or wished for. I knew there was a gap in the market with respite care and companionship. I knew I had what it took to offer ‘ Person Centre Care’, and all I wanted to do was offer a service that was truthworthy, reliable, and person centred! There are so many care companies in Kent, but not all are able to offer a service that really meets the needs of their service users.
I had been working out in the community as a field supervisor, and my role was to attend to clients to conduct a risk assessment, care plans, and care audits. I soon realised that their were so many unhappy clients as they felt they didn’t get the help or services they were paying for. I continued this role until recently due to the fact that my business started to take off and I needed to present. I needed to ensure I was flexible and have the chance to build my business and also take some time for myself! This role really gave me the push I needed to make sure the clients I offer a service to feel supported and they know I want to make a difference to their life. I’ve learnt that communication is key 🔑 and keeping them in the loop at all times is needed.
My first client came on at the end of February, which was a client I used to work with before. This was my family supervised contacts. This is where I supervise time with a parent and child out in the community or in the contact centre. During a contact, I ensure that the parents are engaging with the child, making positive steps to maintain this contact.
Since February, I have had the pleasure of offering my service to different clients ranging from domestic support, personal care, companionship, respite care, and shopping assistance. I have thoroughly enjoyed making a difference and making every client feel supported, important, and cared for.
Starting up my own business hasn’t always been sunshine! It has had some really hard days, but I know that there are always highs and lows in business, and making everyday count is important
I have found that having a plan, goals, and reachable achievements is key to making your business successful. I am really excited to see where the next 6 months go and get my name out there and promote a person centred service.
I am currently working with 10 clients and I’m excited to say this will be doubled by the end of the year.
